Ivy Anderson and Devon Angus will present the fascinating story behind the publication of prostitute Alice Smith's memoir in 1913 San Francisco, all while leading tour participants through San Francisco's historic Barbary Coast vice district. This tour is sure to enlighten all those curious about vice, social geography, and the history of feminism in San Francisco.
The tour begins at the historic offices of the San Francisco Bulletin in San Francisco's downtown district at 814 Mission St. (behind the Westfield Mall) and ends at City Lights Books in North Beach, where a reception with light refreshments will follow.
Comfortable shoes and layered clothing are highly recommended. The content of the talk may not be appropriate for small children. The walk itself will be appropriate for those of most fitness levels, as there are no significant hills or staircases.
